Despite a four-win season and a head coaching change a year ago, the New England Patriots are back in the Super Bowl.
Led by Mike Vrabel and MVP-caliber quarterback Derek Meyer, they finished the regular season with a 14-3 record and were the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. As a result, they went on to beat the Chargers, Texans, and Broncos to punch their ticket to Super Bowl X.

Now, the two teams will meet in Santa Clara for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The Patriots won the coin toss and delayed the game, with the defense taking the first down as Super Bowl 60 began. After Kenneth Walker moved the chains on a first down, Sam Darnold found two downfield completions to move the ball into the red zone. New England’s defense then stayed strong, forcing a field goal. New England’s first drive of the day began with three consecutive touches from Lamond Stevenson, including a third-down conversion in the air. Maye had a 12-yard rush and then set up a 3rd-and-9 after a sack, with a blitz from the blindside leading to a throw and punt.
Seattle’s next drive begins at their own 10-yard line. Immediately facing third-and-6, Darnold eluded Jalin Hawkins’ blitz but missed the wide-open Jaxon Smith-Njiba downfield to force a punt.
