The game at the United Center was the final game of a six-game slog for the Wings, who improved to 4-1-1 overall to improve to 18-12-3 (39 points) overall and tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the Atlantic Division lead.

Alex DeBrincat also had a multi-point night, while John Gibson continued his upward trend with 26 saves for his fifth straight win and his second shutout on the road.

The Blackhawks, like the Wings, are celebrating their centennial year by having former players walk off the ice for pregame speeches; including Chris Chelios, who played for both teams during his storied career. But once the game began, Kane and former Blackhawks teammate DeBrincat put on a show.

DeBrincat scored at 55 seconds when Kane knocked the puck along the boards and found Andrew Kopp in the corner. Kopp fired the puck toward the crease, just in time for DeBrincat to redirect the puck between the legs of Arvid Soderblom.

At 4 minutes and 35 seconds into the game, DeBrincat took the ball away from Connor Murphy and passed it to Kane. Kane scored his 498th career goal with a backhand, and Kane made it 2-0.
