Patrick Kane joins an exclusive club, becoming the 50th player in NHL history to reach 500 goals.
On Thursday, January 8, Kane, 37, hit a huge milestone as he scored twice as the Detroit Red Wings faced off against the Vancouver Canucks, ranking 500th in empty-net points with 3:53 left in the game.

In his 1,332nd career game, Kane has 1,369 points, six shy of breaking Mike Modano’s record for most points by an American-born player (1,374).

The Buffalo, N.Y., native is the fifth American-born player to reach 500 goals in the NHL. Others: Joe Mullen (502 points in 1,062 games), Jeremy Roenicke (513 points in 1,363 games), Keith Tkachuk (538 points in 1,201 games) and Modano (561 points in 1,499 games, including 4 in 40 games with the Red Wings)
Kane, a future Hockey Hall of Famer, has become one of the best players in hockey since being drafted No. 1 overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2007. Kane went on to win the 2008 Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year and played a key role in winning the 2010, 2013 and 2013 Stanley Cups during his fifteen years with the team. 2015. Kane was selected as the playoff MVP in 2013 by the Conn Smythe Award.

In the 2015-16 season, he became the first American-born player to win the Hart Memorial Trophy Most Valuable Player. In the same season, he also won the Art Ross Trophy and became the NHL scoring leader.

With the Blackhawks entering a rebuilding phase, Kane agreed to be traded to the New York Rangers on February 28, 2023. However, his tenure with the second Sixth Form team was short-lived. After the Rangers’ first-round exit, Kane underwent invasive hip surgery and had a recovery period of four to six months.

As Kane prepares to return, he is interested in the Wings, where he would reunite with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat. The Wings were interested in seeing if Kane could help them become more competitive, and the two sides agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million on November 28, 2023.
Kane has scored 451 goals and 1,237 points in 1,180 games since joining the Wings. He debuted on December 7, 2023, and immediately showed that he still has the ability at 35 years old. The Wings signed Kane to a one-year contract extension in the summer of 2024 and 2025.
