More than 200 students at Calvary Christian Academy will have to find a new school next year as the school closes at the end of the school year. The school is connected to Calvary Church on Pineville-Matthews Road.
Parent Elizabeth Fichtman said the education there was perfect for both of her daughters.
“This is an amazing, supportive, grace-based, truly personalized learning environment,” Fichtman said.
Church officials told Jackson the school’s plans required a larger space outside the Calvary campus.
They were unable to find a new, long-term, permanent home for CCA in south Charlotte, so the K-10 academy will close.
“We went from, ‘We have a clue. We have a school, a place where the school can be moved,’ to a week before Christmas break, we found out, ‘No, there is no school. We are closed indefinitely,'” Fichtman said.
In a statement on CCA’s website, the school board said the decision was not made lightly.
Fichtman said she is working with other parents to find new homes not only for Calvary Christian Academy students, but also for its teachers and staff.
“I know there are parents who are considering co-ops,” she said. “We and several others are in conversations with another potential site that might be feasible. We’re hopeful about that.”

The school has developed rapidly since its establishment. It was established as an independent school in 2018 as The Oaks Christian School.
Calvary Christian Academy opened in 2022 with 77 students.
There are currently more than 200 applicants.
