A San Diego Padres spring training game was decided by one run for the third time in the last four games. Unfortunately for the Padres, the Colorado Rockies were at home plate in the bottom of the ninth inning when Zach Wynn hit a solo homer to right center field to lift the Rockies to a 3-2 victory over Salt River Park on Friday at Talking Stick Field in Scottsdale, Arizona.
San Diego took an early lead when Manny Machado hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right-center field for his seventh RBI of the game, giving the Padres a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. San Diego scored its second run in the top of the eighth inning when Samad Taylor hit a single to the left side of the infield and Tirso Ornelas tied the game at 2-2.

Wynn hit the game-winning homer to make it 1-0 when Padres reliever Sean Boyle hit an 89.1 mph fastball at the plate. Wynn’s trip to the base much to the delight of his teammates and the home crowd, Boyle and his teammates left the field and returned to Peoria, Arizona.
Jake Cronenworth, Ramon Laureano and Sung-moon Song were the only San Diego starters to record hits against Colorado pitchers. Taylor had the Padres’ only other hit on an RBI single in the eighth inning.
Randy Vasquez started on the mound for San Diego and once again performed well. He went 2.2 innings without a hit. Vasquez did issue a walk, but he also recorded four strikeouts.
The Padres return to the Peoria Sports Center on Saturday to face the Seattle Mariners at 12:10 p.m. The San Diego Cactus League opener was their last game against Seattle on Feb. 20, which the Padres lost 7-4.
