“Overwatch 2” is a free hero shooting game launched by Blizzard, which has been renamed “Overwatch”. Blizzard announced during an Overwatch Spotlight livestream on Wednesday that the game is being renamed and removing the “2” from the title as part of a major revamp that includes a new year’s story, 10 new heroes and a ton of new content. The game will usher in a new Season 1 on February 10th, which will feature 5 out of 10 new heroes.
“Overwatch” welcomes the new year story
Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will get a “multi-faceted, fully connected story” for the first time as part of a year-round roadmap. The story, titled Reign of the Claw, will run throughout the year from Seasons 1 to 6, before a new Season 1 launches in 2027.
The first chapter of Overwatch’s new narrative expansion will begin on February 10, adding five new heroes to the game, as well as updated hero characters and sub-characters, new activities, rewards, and a new UI/UX experience.

The five new heroes coming to Overwatch next week include Domina (tank), Emre (damage), Mizuki (support), Enron (damage), and Jetpack Cat (support). Five more heroes will be added to the shooter throughout the rest of the year. Blizzard says all heroes will play a key role in the story as Talon’s Reign unfolds.
The story will begin with a new cinematic and will be told later through action comics, in-game events, new voice acting, animated hero trailers, and short stories.
In addition to the new heroes, Blizzard is also introducing new sub-characters in Season 1 on February 10th. Tank heroes will be divided into Bruiser, Initiator, and Stalwart subclasses; damage characters will get Sharpshooter, Flank, Specialist, and Recorder subroles, while support classes will be spread among Tactician, Medic, and Survivor.
Season 1 will also feature Conquest, a five-week event filled with tasks that grant new gameplay rewards. In the new season, “Overwatch” will also receive its first UI/UX update in 10 years. The updated interface will be available in the lobby, playing cards, navigation, hero gallery and social platforms.
Switch 2 version coming in spring
Blizzard also shared its roadmap for updates until late summer. Season 2 will begin in the spring, with seasons 3 and 4 launching in the summer and fall respectively, bringing new heroes, new maps, and more content.
Finally, Overwatch Season 2 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2. Blizzard has yet to confirm a release date for the Switch 2 version of the game, but Season 2 is scheduled to launch in the spring in the United States in March.
“Overwatch 2” is the follow-up to “Overwatch” and will be launched as a free game in 2023 after nearly a year of early access. Blizzard originally planned to offer a PvE co-op mode for the game, but this was later canceled.
