Overnight crash leaves hundreds without power in Maplewood

British stone. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A car crashed into a utility pole overnight in Maplewood Thursday morning, injuring one person and leaving hundreds without power.

The crash happened on Big Bend Boulevard at Folk Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday. The crash, which involved an Acura sedan, caused extensive damage to the area, including downed power lines and transformers.

The incident knocked out power to nearly 300 customers in the area, according to Ameren. Repair work is expected to take several hours to restore power.

Police said the incident was a single-vehicle collision with only one person in the vehicle. The vehicle was traveling southbound on Big Bend Avenue when it suddenly lost control and hit a utility pole. After the accident, the injured were sent to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.

Southbound Big Bend Boulevard is currently closed while crews make repairs and clean up the scene. One northbound lane in Big Bend will remain open ahead of the morning commute.
