Orioles Continue Hot Offseason, Reportedly Trade For Shane Baz

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Sean Baz in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports.

Baz, 26, started a career-high 31 games for the Rays in 2025, going 10-12 with a 4.87 ERA in 166 1/3 innings. He struck out 176 batters with a 1.33 WHIP, despite giving up 26 home runs and hitting some midseason struggles. Baz had a solid September that included five scoreless innings against the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays and four hitless innings against the Orioles.

Starting his MLB career in 2021 with three starts and a 2.03 ERA, Baz holds a 17-17 career record with a 4.25 ERA and 293 strikeouts in 54 games and 286 innings. Tommy John missed 2023 due to surgery after part of the 2022 season, but he bounced back in 2024 with a 3.06 ERA in 14 games. Buzz is still a very promising prospect, which makes this a noteworthy trade for Baltimore.
