One person missing after large fire at Needham home draws massive response

On the morning of Christmas Eve, a fire broke out in a large home in Needham, sending smoke throughout the community and leaving one person missing.

Seventy-five firefighters from seven towns battled haze and smoke after a house fire broke out on Woodworth Road in Needham around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Needham Fire Chief Thomas Conroy said one resident was missing, but crews were unable to search the entire building because firefighters were still actively extinguishing the fire.

Two people could be identified inside the house.

Vehicles from several different towns can be seen on the road.

The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal urges residents to check fire alarms and smoke detectors.

The cause of the fire is unclear.

The incident is being investigated by members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, Needham Police Department and Fire Department.
