MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim appeared optimistic about the injuries to Bruno Fernandes and Kobe Minu, although he confirmed the midfielders will miss Friday’s Premier League game against Newcastle.
Amorim initially said he feared the skipper would be out for “a period of time” after Fernandes grabbed his hamstring and suffered a soft tissue injury during United’s loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

However, ahead of the Premier League’s only Boxing Day game, Amorim softened his view on the extent of Fernandes’ injury and the calf problem that will keep Mainu out of the Villa game.
“Not fit for this game,” Amorim said on Wednesday of the prospect of both players being available against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
“They’re recovering. I don’t think it’s going to take a lot of time. I think Kobe will be back sooner than Bruno.”
Asked about the timetable for Fernandez’s absence, Amorim added: “I don’t want to say, I have an idea, but let’s see.”
