Andrew Mangiapane ended up being a complete failure, but at least they found a way to get rid of him.
He was reportedly sent to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night in a fascinating deal:

The Oilers actually made this deal more likely by placing Mangiapane off waivers earlier this week.
The Athletic’s Chris Johnston wrote: “It’s actually quite the opposite, as with Mangiapane clearing waivers, the acquiring team can ship him directly to the AHL and be able to get a sweetener from Edmonton to take on his contract. Mangiapane’s game is still a long way from the 35-goal season he had in 2021-22, but he did score 13 last season in Washington. A goal of equal strength, and with Edmonton being deployed as a penalty killer for the fifth-best team in the league, he was desperate to free up cap space for other moves, so he had to leave.”

Mangiapane’s average annual value is $3.6 million and his contract runs until the 2026-27 season.
That seems to be Chicago’s problem right now.
