E-ZPass tags will be replaced in NJ: Here’s what to know

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – New Jersey drivers will have their E-ZPass replaced by a sticker.

The old-school E-ZPass tags that people typically attach to their windshields with Velcro will be phased out and replaced by new sticker-based transponders.

“We are currently transitioning to tag-based E‑ZPass transponders,” said Dee Singh, director of customer services for the Turnpike Authority. “However, the transition is still in its early stages and we currently do not have a firm implementation date.”

Several states, including California and Georgia, have adopted similar sticker-style toll tags, which are cheaper to manufacture and harder to remove or misuse, according to their transportation agencies.
