Odessa woman finds refuge after driving to OPD

A 43-year-old Odessa man was arrested and booked into the Ector County Jail early Friday morning after his ex-wife accused him of threatening to kill her and following her to a police station.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call around 9 p.m. Thursday from a 31-year-old woman who said her husband threatened her with a knife and was following her.

Reports say the woman drove to OPD and met with an officer in the Municipal Court parking lot.

She told officers that her ex-husband, Yoandris Gonzalez Perez, 43, had just left northbound on Grant Avenue and explained that she and Gonzalez had separated 10 days earlier after two years together, the report said.

She said Gonzalez walked into her bedroom and told her he had been thinking about killing her for leaving him, then threw her to the ground and held an 8- to 10-inch kitchen knife to her face, the report said.

The woman said she was able to stand up, leave and go to the OPD, reports said.

According to the police report, Gonzalez was on a video call with the woman while she was talking to the officer, who told her he would be in a bad situation if she went to call the police.

Gonzalez was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As of Friday evening, no bail had been released.
