The former North Texas quarterback announced his commitment to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday. He followed head coach Eric Morris to Stillwater after two seasons with the Mean Green.
Mestemaker entered the transfer portal shortly after Morris accepted the Oklahoma State job, making a reunion a natural fit.
Mestemaker, a former backup at North Texas State’s Miglin Stadium, appeared in five games as a freshman and had a breakout performance in the program’s bowl game. He earned the starting job as a redshirt freshman in 2025 and quickly became one of the most productive quarterbacks in the country.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder leads the FBS with 4,129 passing yards in 12 games, completing 70.2 percent of his passes. He threw for 31 touchdowns against seven interceptions and was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Mestemaker became the fifth freshman in FBS history to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a season and set multiple single-season passing records at North Texas.
With Morris now leading Oklahoma State, Mestemaker is expected to bring continuity and proven production to the Cowboys offense. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is capable of competing for a starting job beginning in the 2026 season as Oklahoma looks to retool its offense around an experienced, pass-rushing player.
