Microsoft is reportedly planning to hold an Xbox event in January 2025, which is likely to be a developer showcase where the company will provide updates on upcoming first-party games. This information is consistent with the date of previous Xbox developer direct presentations; Microsoft held its 2024 event on January 18, released “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle”, and provided updates on “Senna: Hellblade II”, “Oath” and other content.
Xbox is said to be planning a developer face-to-face event in January
The Verge’s Tom Warren claims he expects an Xbox event to take place in January 2025. “It feels like Microsoft is finally getting into a good rhythm with Xbox Game Pass releases, especially with the recent release of Raiders of the Lost Ark and 2025 games. Avowed, Midnight South, Doom, Towerborne, Fable, The Outer Worlds 2, and more are coming next year. I’m also looking forward to an Xbox event in January,” he said in a post on Bluesky Tuesday.

Although the reporter did not specify the developer face-to-face event, Microsoft has previously held the showcase in 2023 and January 2024. The company has yet to confirm plans for a gaming showcase in January 2025.
Microsoft can provide updates for already-released games such as Avowed, South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, Fable, and The Outer Worlds 2 on Developer Direct. The company may also share more details about Gears of War: E-Day and Perfect Dark, two games that don’t yet have a confirmed release date or window.
Perfect Dark, the next Gears of War game, and Doom: Dark Ages were revealed at the Xbox Game Showcase in June. The latter will be available on Xbox Series S/X, PC, and PS5 in 2025, and will be released on Game Pass on day one.
At the Xbox Developer Direct 2024 showcase held on January 18, Microsoft showed off MachineGames’ “Indiana Jones and the Big Circle.” The action-adventure game launches on PC and Xbox Series S/X on December 9, with the PS5 due next year. At the event, the Xbox parent company also provided a release date for Senua’s Saga and shared a release window for Obsidian’s next big fantasy RPG, Avowed.
Avowed was originally slated to launch in the fall of 2024, but was later pushed back to February 18, 2025.
