No. 23 Miami (Ohio) remains lone unbeaten team in Division I after 90-74 win over Ohio

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Brandt Byers scored 21 points, Peter Suder added 20 and No. 23 Miami beat Ohio State 90-74 on Friday night to become the only undefeated team in Division I.

Eian Elmer added 15 points for the Redhawks (25-0, 11-0 Mid-American Conference), which tied the school’s single-season wins record set last season.

Jackson Paveletzke led Ohio State (13-13, 7-6) with 22 points and Javan Simmons scored 12 points. The Bobcats struggled from three-point range, shooting 5-of-21 from the field, while the Redhawks made 9-of-18 from beyond the arc and 21 points on 28 free throws.

Byers, Suder and Alma Atlasson each grabbed 6 rebounds as the Redhawks led 38-29.

At halftime, the Heat led 43-35 and then steadily widened the gap. At the beginning of the second half, the team went on a 7-2 run, in which Byers made 13 of 16 free throws and scored 5 points.

With 4 minutes left in the game, the team led 83-63.

The score between the two sides was stalemate in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Redhawks led 30-26 before going on an 11-4 run to extend the lead to 41-30 with 1:58 left in the first half.

The Miami Heat set a school record for single-game home attendance at Millett Hall, with 10,640 fans. The same was true for the Jan. 31 game against Northern Illinois.
