No. 17 Kansas uses balanced scoring to defeat Davidson 90-61

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Trey White and Florrie Bidenga each had 18 points and eight rebounds as No. 17 Kansas beat Davidson 90-61 on Monday night.

The Jayhawks (10-3) had six players score in double figures, including all five starters. Bryson Tiller scored 11 points and Jamari McDowell scored 10 points. Melvin Counsell Jr. had 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

Cole Rosario scored 13 points off the bench as Kansas shot 58% from the field, including 11 of 21 (52%) from 3-point range. The Jayhawks made 27 of 37 shots and outrebounded Davidson 42-31. White stole four of the team’s 13 steals.

Roberts Blums was the only player to score in double figures for the Wildcats (8-4), scoring 13 points off the bench. Davidson was limited to 36 percent shooting and 2-for-6 from the free throw line.

Kansas was without Darin Peterson for the second straight game. The freshman star missed seven straight games due to injury earlier this season but averaged 25 points in four games.

But the Jayhawks barely missed him.

Kansas led by 19 points before Davidson went on a 10-2 run to push the score to 36-25. The Wildcats hit six straight field goals in one stretch, but they never got within single digits. The lead grew back to 46-26 when White hit his fourth 3-pointer of the first half.

Kansas returned to the locker room with a 51-30 bottom spot. The Jayhawks led by 16 points, led by White. Bidunga and Parliament have 10 each.

The second half didn’t start much better for Davidson, as the Wildcats took a 7-2 lead 2:51 into the first half, leading coach Matt McKillup to run out of a timeout with 17:09 left.

Kansas State immediately put distance between itself and the powerful Wildcats. The Jayhawks had extended their lead to 17-6 when Bidunga completed an alley-oop dunk with 13:03 left in the first half. Davidson didn’t reach double digits until 10:36 left in the first half.

Next

Davidson will face Duquesne on Dec. 30.

Kansas is on hold until the Big 12 game on Jan. 3 at UCF.
