No. 14 Iowa women overcome 16-point halftime deficit, defeat Indiana 56-53

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Ava Heiden and Chazadi Wright scored 13 points apiece, Hannah Stuelke had a double-double and No. 14 Iowa beat Indiana 56-53 on Sunday.

The Hawkeyes shot 25% in the first half, missed all eight 3-pointers and trailed 35-19, but outscored the Hoosiers 19-4 in the third quarter. Iowa scored 17 straight points to lead 38-37. Zaniya Soka-Engemen finally scored a layup for Indiana, and the Hoosiers took a 39-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

There were seven lead changes in the fourth quarter, the last of which was a three-pointer by Wright that gave Iowa a 51-50 lead with 2:41 left in the game. Indiana didn’t score again until Caffey hit a three-pointer at the last second.

Shay Ciezki scored 21 points for Indiana, just shy of the sixth-ranked national average of 23.3 points. Soka Engeman had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Indians (11-7, 0-6 Big Ten).

Stuerke had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Iowa (14-2, 5-0).

Trailing 20-10 with seven minutes left in the second quarter, Iowa missed 10 straight shots and made 13 of 15 shots. Hayden scored five straight points to keep the Hawkeyes going, making it 22-17 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half.

Chetsky scored 11 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes of the half, and the Indians led 35-19 at the break. She scored 19 points in the half.

Indiana is 11-1 in nonconference play but is off to an 0-6 start in the Big Ten, including its last four losses to ranked teams.

Iowa State led by 19 points in the first half and Indiana led by 18 points in the second half.
