Nintendo Direct Livestream Confirmed for This Week, Will Be Roughly 60 Minutes Long

Nintendo is back with live broadcasts this week highlighting upcoming Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games. The company released a brief statement on Tuesday confirming the event but giving no details about the content of the live stream. The Mario Maker is reportedly planning to hold a Nintendo Direct showcase in September, around the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. game.

Nintendo Direct Announced

Nintendo announced on its social media channels on Tuesday that the Nintendo Direct presentation will take place on Friday, September 12 at 6am PT / 9am PT (6:30pm IST). The showcase will be live-streamed on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. You can also watch the show in the video embedded below when it goes live later on Friday.

Nintendo has confirmed that the show will be approximately 60 minutes long, which means it will be a show full of announcements. The direct preset will take place on September 13, 2025, the day before the 40th anniversary of the release of the first Super Mario Bros. on the NES in Japan. As a result, fans speculated that Nintendo might announce the next Mario game during the reveal.

What to expect from Nintendo Direct

While it remains to be seen whether Nintendo will reveal the long-awaited follow-up to Super Mario Odyssey, the Direct will likely bring updates to the game that has already been announced for Switch 2. One of them is Metroid Beyond, which will be released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 sometime in 2025. Nintendo may finally confirm the game’s release date during the event.

Other upcoming first-party Switch 2 games include Pokémon Legends: ZA, which releases on October 16, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, which is set to release later this year.

The show may also launch more third-party games on Switch 2. Since its launch in June, Nintendo’s new console has been heavily supported by major third-party games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Last month, reports surfaced that Nintendo was planning to hold a Direct demo on September 12th. This will be the seventh Direct demo this year, including a Switch 2 Nintendo Direct and demos dedicated to specific games. Last month, Nintendo held a Kirby Sky Rider face-to-face meeting and shared an in-depth look at the Switch 2 racing game.
