Nine worst free agent signings in Baltimore Ravens franchise history

After missing the playoffs for the second time in eight seasons, the Ravens fired John Harbaugh and hired Jesse Minter, a defensive-minded head coach who has taken early steps to build a strong coaching staff.

Minter’s next steps will be to re-sign quarterback Lamar Jackson and rebuild a defense that ranks 14th in success rate (43.4%) and 29th in pressure rate (32.1%). Baltimore has 22 unrestricted free agentsAccording to “Over The Cap” reports, big-name stars such as Tyler Linderbaum, Isaiah Likely, KyEric DeCosta will evaluate Le Van Noy, Draymont Jones, Alohi Gilman, Chidobe Awuzie and Adalius Washington.

Elvis Gerback(2001)

Gerbuck got a five-year, $30 million contract to replace Trent Dilfer, who won 11 straight games for the Ravens, including a 34-7 Super Bowl victory over the New York Giants. Gerback led the Ravens to the defending Super Bowl title, throwing 15 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in one season.

Leon Searcy(2001)

Searcy signed a six-year, $31.5 million contract in Baltimore but never played in the regular season due to a triceps injury.

Earl Thomas(2019)

Thomas, who earned stardom with the Legion of Boom defense, signed a four-year, $55 million contract in Baltimore but was fired after one season due to fights with teammates and serious off-field situations.

Dominic Foxworthy(2009)

Foxworth was a third-round draft pick (97th overall) of the Denver Broncos in 2005 and was a part-time starter during his time in Denver before being traded to the Atlanta Falcons, starting 10 of 14 games and totaling 39 tackles and one interception. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Foxworth had four interceptions in 60 career games before joining the Ravens. After signing a four-year, $28 million contract, Foxworth suffered a torn ACL and played only 18 games with four interceptions.

Alejandro Villanueva (2021)

Villanueva had his worst season in the NFL after taking over for Orlando Brown Jr., and then retired shortly after.

Mike Anderson(2006)

Anderson rushed for just 245 yards in two seasons with Baltimore.

Frank Sanders(2003)

The veteran receiver had 14 catches for 170 yards in one season with the Ravens.

Sammy Watkins(2021)

In his first season in Baltimore, Watkins caught 27 passes for 394 yards and one touchdown in 13 games.

Jaire Alexander(2025)

The Eagles acquired veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens in a move that was supposed to benefit both parties. The Eagles traded the veteran cornerback and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Alexander signed a one-year contract with the Ravens after the Packers waived him in June. Alexander played two games with Baltimore this season, recording five tackles. However, he was either injured or healthy for the remaining six games.

Alexander has 290 career tackles with 12 for a loss, 12 interceptions, 1.5 sacks, 70 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown in the regular season.
