NFL world reacts to Commanders’ Week 16 performance vs. Eagles

The Washington Commanders look like they’re going to push back the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances of winning the NFC East for at least one more day. Instead, quarterback Marcus Mariota went down on the first play of the second half, and Washington’s defense held firm in the first half and had nothing to do against Saquon Barkley, and the Eagles won 29-18.

The Commanders controlled the first half, starting with a turnover on the opening kickoff. Unfortunately, Washington was unable to convert the turnover into a touchdown; instead, it ended up settling for three points. Philadelphia then led 7-3, but the Commanders made it 10-7 when rookie running back Jakoli Krosky-Merritt scored a touchdown.

However, Mariota was injured in the third quarter, and the Wizards’ defense was suddenly unable to intercept. Head coach Dan Quinn was too conservative and punted twice near midfield in the fourth quarter. The commander fell behind by 11 points. The loss was emblematic of Washington’s season: turnovers, injuries and all.

During and after the game, the NFL world, including many Washington fans, expressed displeasure with the Commanders’ recent loss, which included some strange decisions made by Quinn in Saturday’s game.

Here are some of the reactions.
