NFL Week 16 injury update: Commanders LT Laremy Tunsil

Last week, Washington Commander offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury praised left tackle Laremy Tunsil and then said “he’s going to get a lot of money.”

Tunsil later admitted that yes, he wanted to be paid, but he wanted to be in Washington after the Commanders traded him last offseason. Tunsil has two years left on his contract and will receive a nice raise after a stellar first season in Washington.

Tunsil has started every game for the Commanders this season, but could be in jeopardy Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Tunsil sat out the first half of Sunday’s Week 15 game against the New York Giants with a shoulder injury. Trainers were working with Tunsil on the sidelines, but he walked into the locker room.

Tunsil did return to the game, but left when Washington reported an oblique injury. Overall, Tunsil hit 29 of the Commanders’ 61 possessions.

Head coach Dan Quinn provided an update on Tunsil on Monday.

“He has an oblique injury and we’ll have to see what his strength, movement and strength are over the next few days,” Quinn said. “If he can do that, then he’ll play.”

Remember, Washington plays on Saturday, not Sunday. This day could have a significant impact on Tunsil’s availability this week. The Commanders ran out of options with three games remaining and ended quarterback Jayden Daniels’ season on Monday.

If Tunsil can’t go, Washington has Brandon Coleman. As a rookie last season, Coleman started a total of 15 games at left tackle, including the playoffs. He started all three games against the Eagles.
