Arizona Cardinals free agency: S Reed Blankenship
With safety Jalen Thompson entering free agency, the Cardinals may choose to sign Blankenship to play opposite Buda Baker. Blankenship, who spent his rookie season in Philadelphia with current Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, would be a perfect fit in Arizona’s base two-high coverage. Blankenship also brings production on the ball (nine career interceptions with the Eagles).
This is indeed a good choice. At 6-foot-1 and over 200 pounds, he gives the Cardinals a different physical profile at the position (Thompson is 5-foot-11, while Bada Baker and Dadreon Taylor-Demerson are both 5-foot-10), as well as a different skill set. He excels at handling the ball, but he can also be a physical tackler, recording as many as 113 steals in a single season.
Rallis knows him and he will give the secondary an upgrade.
This is a very suitable choice.
