Newly Released Police Report Discloses Anne Burrell Was Not Given Narcan at Time of Death

According to TMZ, Burrell was dead when paramedics arrived at the scene. Naloxone, sold as Narcan, is a drug that can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose if taken promptly.

Burrell’s husband, Stuart ClaxtonOn June 17, 2025, she was found lying face up on the shower floor in her bathroom. Burrell was pronounced dead by emergency responders shortly after Claxton discovered her body.

According to the police report, emergency responders found “a variety of over-the-counter medications mixed in a bowl” near Burrell’s body. The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Burrell’s cause of death was “acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine and amphetamines.”

On Wednesday, February 18, it was revealed that a suicide note had also been found in Burrell’s bedroom, along with a number of diary entries.

Claxton reportedly told police that his wife had “never attempted suicide in the past,” had “never talked about it,” and had not shown “any indication that she would do such a thing.”

Anne shone far beyond those she knew and touched millions around the world. Although she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit and boundless love remain eternal.”

Burrell is known for his culinary expertise and as a mentor and presenter on TV series Worst Cooks in America. She has also appeared in Restaurant chef secrets and The next Iron Chef.
