Austin, Texas – A survey of early voters in the Texas primary showed a significant jump in the polls. This includes an influx of independent voters.
That survey was a red flag, and this new poll is truly eye-popping, turning the race for the top two on its head.
what are they talking about
Early vote counting resulted in higher Democratic turnout than Republicans in the primary. The FOX 7 Battleground Texas segment looked at Tavern Research’s investigation.
The data suggests a new type of swing vote is emerging among independents and the undecided, and that group of voters is currently leaning toward Democrats.
“I would say our research shows very clearly that the Republican messaging to these swing voters was less successful than the Democratic messaging to these swing voters. Our research was designed to really compare the Democratic candidates to each other and to the Republican candidates, but what we see here is that in both cases, the Democratic candidate with this group of swing voters won after these voters heard their message and the Republican message,” said Jack Martin of Tavern Research.
Many analysts say the midterm elections are a referendum on President Trump. Martin was asked whether the pub survey suggested that belief would continue into the summer, autumn and general election.
“I think so. I think there are a lot of signs that we’re seeing across the country that that’s going to be the case, and as we get into the summer, into the fall, it’s going to be more difficult to break away from that narrative and attitude among voters,” Martin said.
From a numerical perspective
Another poll from the University of Texas at Tyler suggests that attitudes are changing. New poll shows John Cornyn now ahead of Ken Paxton and Wesley Hunter.
The survey also showed fewer people were undecided. In the Democratic Senate race, a University of Texas at Tyler poll shows Jasmine Crockett leading James Talarico.
The UT Tyler poll follows a survey released by Talarico’s campaign. Previous polls had shown Talarico with a slight lead.

Drilling down into the data provides a regional breakdown of support. For Talarico’s support, poll participants came from the blue bubble of Central Texas.
Jasmine Crockett received an outpouring of support from people in the Dallas and Houston metro areas as well as rural areas of South Texas and East Texas.
The big regional surprise in the Republican Senate primary involves Ken Paxton. Analysis shows there is significant support along the border in southern Texas. This may reflect his past legal battles with the Biden administration over border security.
