New Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan is in Indianapolis today as the NFL Scouting Combine takes place ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. While speaking with media in attendance, the quarterback position was discussed at length, including the possibility of signing former Green Bay Packers backup Malik Willis.
Here’s what Sullivan had to say about potentially adding a player to Miami’s roster that his former Packers staff traded for less than two years ago:
“Personally, I’m very happy for Malik… Malik is a very, very good kid. [The level of interest in him] It’s a testament to him and the performances he’s had and the opportunities he’s been given. As for the Miami Dolphins, look, I think I’m lying to you… Any team that might be facing a quarterback dilemma, if they tell you they’re not talking about Malik Willis, that’s going to be a lie. “
Sullivan would keep talking, but this time he would keep his cards close to his chest.
“But we talked about a lot of guys — a lot of free agents. Malik is just one of them. We don’t know what our room is going to look like. Is it going to be multiple draft picks? Is it going to be free agency with Quinn?” [Ewers]? Who knows? We have a lot of factors at play – a lot of decisions to make over the next few weeks, but I wish Malik the best. [I have] There is a lot to like about humans. He’s a great kid. “
With the Dolphins hiring a new general manager and head coach (Jeff Hafley) from the Packers, coupled with the team’s need for a new quarterback, the connection to recent No. 1 free agent Malik Willis will continue to be strong until free agency begins on March 11, just over two weeks from today.
