NBC Halts Olympics Coverage With Breaking News About Savannah Guthrie’s Mom

NBC’s coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Milan, was briefly put on hold on Tuesday to share an update on the mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st. She was last seen on January 31 outside her home in Arizona. The NBC anchor’s 84-year-old mother was taken against her will, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

A ransom note was reportedly sent to the Guthrie family last week. The deadline for ransom payments in Bitcoin was set last Monday.

“We believe our mom is still out there,” Savannah Guthrie said. “We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock to try to bring her home, to try to find her. She was taken from us and we don’t know where. We need your help.”

The FBI released several black-and-white photos and three videos of an unidentified person showing up at Nancy Guthrie’s front door.

“Over the past eight days, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, damaged, or inaccessible due to various factors, including deletion of the recording device. The video was recovered from residual data in the back-end system,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “Working with our partners – As of this morning, law enforcement has discovered these new, previously inaccessible images showing an armed man who appears to have tampered with Nancy Guthrie’s front door camera the morning she disappeared. Anyone with information is asked to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit http://tips.fbi.gov.”

NBC shared the images on national television during a scheduled advertising break at the Olympics.
