Nate McMurray launches run for 145th Assembly District

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A familiar face in local politics is running for office again.

On Saturday, Democrat Nate McMurray officially launched his campaign for New York State’s 145th District.

The district covers Grand Island and much of western Niagara County.
McMurray is a former Grand Island town supervisor who ran for Congress three times. He said his campaign is about helping Niagara Falls reach its potential.

“We’ve had enough,” McMurray told WIVB News 4. “We have to find a way to make Niagara Falls and Niagara County the centerpiece of the region. It’s such a gem, but it’s been neglected for too long. So much money has been made here and left here.”

McMurray is no stranger to running for office.

The Democrat announced his first challenge to now-former Congressman Chris Collins in January 2018 for the seat in New York’s then-27th Congressional District.

McMurray then unsuccessfully ran against Republican Chris Jacobs in a special election to fill the congressional seat left open by Collins’ insider trading case and eventual resignation in 2019. The next year, Jacobs was declared the winner.

McMurray later ran briefly for Erie County executive but dropped out in February 2023. In 2024, he challenged then-state Sen. Tim Kennedy to run for the 26th Congressional District.

Angelo Morinello, Republican representing 145 statesth A member of the New York State Assembly district since 2017, he will not seek re-election and will retire when his term expires at the end of the year.

Morinello has endorsed former Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Rebecca Wydysh, whose term ended in December.
