Ukraine is working with SpaceX to prevent Russia from using Starlink’s internet system to guide drones, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said on Thursday, after Kyiv said the system was found on a long-range drone used in Russian attacks.

“Western technology must continue to help the democratic world and protect civilians, rather than being used for terrorism and destroying peaceful cities,” Fedorov said on X.

Although Musk disagrees with Ukrainian officials over his views on the Russian war, the Ukrainian military still relies on tens of thousands of Starlinks for battlefield communications and some drone missions.

Starlink expands Musk’s geopolitical influence. In 2022, he claimed control over how and where Ukrainian forces used Starlink to fight Russian forces.
