Musk Makes Massive Donation After Humiliating Trump U-Turn

Elon Musk has poured millions of dollars into a Republican Senate candidate’s campaign after vowing to disrupt the party following a major feud with Donald Trump.

The world’s richest man has donated $10 million to Kentucky’s Nate Morris, a pro-Trump candidate hoping to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, Axios reports.

The massive funding to the Fight for Kentucky super PAC is the tech billionaire’s largest donation ever to a Senate candidate and a major sign of Musk’s desire to regain an influential role in Republican politics.

The reversal marks an embarrassing concession for the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive. He had vowed last year to support challengers to Republican incumbents in the midterm elections and pledged to donate to his reelection campaign after Trump’s nemesis, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, got into a bitter spat with Trump.

Shortly after Musk resigned from the failed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) program, Trump and Musk began bickering with each other over the president’s “big and beautiful” spending bill. The argument escalated to Musk’s claim that the reason the government had not released documents related to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was because Trump appeared in them.

Musk also threatened to set up a third-party organization called “American Party” to challenge Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, and the Republican Party is expected to suffer heavy losses nationwide.

However, Axios also reported in December that Musk no longer plans to undermine Trump and the Republican Party. Instead, he is looking to become a traditional Republican megadonor, having reportedly poured nearly $300 million into Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Musk reportedly changed his mind after a dinner with Vice President Vance, White House chief of staff Suzy Wells and former White House aide Tyler Budovich, as the administration works to repair the relationship between the president and the tech billionaire.

Musk has since told Republican staffers that after issuing a $10 million check to Morris, he planned to donate more money to Republican causes and Republican super PACs pro-House and Senate.

The rocky relationship between Musk and Trump has cooled down when Musk dined with the president and Melania Trump at Mar-a-Lago on January 3.

When asked by reporters on Air Force One the next day if Musk was “back on track,” Trump responded: “I’m talking about Elon, he’s 80 percent super genius and 20 percent mistakes. But he’s a good guy.”
