  • Tammy, 55, recently lost weight and decided to undergo plastic surgery to address “accelerated” aging

  • She sought help from Dr. Amir Kalam in San Diego

  • Her procedures include vertical restoration (Dr. Kalam’s version of a face and neck lift), facial fat grafting, upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, and lip lift

Tammy has a new look.

The 55-year-old Las Vegas resident had wanted to have plastic surgery for years, but it wasn’t until she lost “a lot” of weight and saw herself aging in a way she wasn’t happy with that she decided it was time to take the plunge.

“I put it in my back pocket and thought, this might be something I’d be interested in,” she told People magazine about considering plastic surgery. “I’ve lost a lot of weight recently, so I’m aging faster than I thought. I thought, OK, now is the time.”

Tammy had been following San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Aamir Kalam on social media for years, and when she decided she wanted to address the signs of aging on her face, she immediately turned to him.

“It was a bit like shopping for a wedding dress. The first thing I tried on was the one I chose,” she said of meeting him and deciding that he would perform her surgery.

Dr. Karam said that from the moment of the first consultation, Tammy brought a great vibe.

“She truly represents the spirit of this practice,” he tells People, adding that he feels “lucky” to work with someone like her.

He said the meeting with Tammy was similar to how most of his patients come in with a “very singular desire” to “look as young as they feel.”

“They feel like the aging process has stripped them of their identity, of their sense of themselves, and they’re looking for solutions. The reason they end up coming to me is always the same. It’s because they actually believe that I can give them a supernatural version of themselves.”

Tammy said that when she met Dr. Kalam, he felt like “family” because he understood what she was looking for in her appearance. After discussing what Dr. Karam would do for Tammy’s surgery, they decided to perform a full facial rejuvenation procedure. These include Dr. Karam’s signature vertical restoration (his face and neck lift), facial fat grafting, upper blepharoplasty, lower blepharoplasty, and lip lifts. She has also been using Dr. Karam’s Trifecta skin care products.

“Vertical restoration takes care of the entire facial shape,” explains Dr. Karam. “[Including] This occurs around the late 1940s and early 1950s due to laxity of the fascia that sag downwards. There’s just a switch happening, probably due to hormones. The corners of the eyebrows, the middle of the face, the chin, and the neck all started to sag. This gives the face a different shape. Instead of a raised heart or an inverted triangle, it became rectangular and heavy. “

When the day of surgery came, Tammy flew from Las Vegas to San Diego and said she didn’t remember much, but she knew she wasn’t nervous.

“It’s funny because I remember getting up in the morning before, getting ready, feeling excited, doing some meditation, saying some prayers and just having a peaceful morning at the beach,” Tammy said. “I remember driving there and that’s it. I just remember getting out of the car and going, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing.'”

Dr. Karam said her surgery, which was done under intravenous sedation and local anesthesia, went as planned. So did her recovery. However, he joked that people liked him before the surgery, but a few days after the surgery, they started to be scared of what was happening to their faces.

“After three or four days, when the swelling gets really big, they get scared that they’re going to be the ‘exception’ to the whole thing because everything is so puffy,” he said of people worrying that they won’t heal properly. “They didn’t look like themselves. And then they hated me. And then by day seven to day 14 after surgery, things settled down really quickly and got better pretty quickly.”

Tammy spent a week in California recovering and said she did experience some swelling that Dr. Karam warned her about. This was the most “surprising” part of her recovery. Beyond that, she said the emotional toll was more than she expected.

“I thought, OK, I’ve got this. I wanted this so bad. I’ve heard other people say there’s a psychological aspect to it. It hits you and you’re like, why do I feel this way? What do I feel? Why am I so emotional about how my face looks? So I’m still holding on to that,” Tammy said. “Why did this hit me like this? What resonated with me? I’m not sure yet. Maybe there’s a disconnect between what your brain sees and how you feel. Because I’m happy with everything. I love it. Everything is going great. It’s emotional.”

Since undergoing surgery in late 2025, Tammy has been sharing her recovery process with Dr. Kalam’s social media followers. Over the past few weeks, Tammy has taken viewers through the process, telling People she wasn’t afraid to do it because she’s always been an “open book.”

“I have nothing to hide. I’m happy to do it,” she said.

However, as she shared it with Dr. Kalam’s millions of followers on social media, she began to receive all kinds of comments – both good and bad.

“Some of the comments were crazy,” she said. “They’re wild, but I love that. I think it’s funny. I just laugh with everyone.”

There were tons of comments on Tammy’s video praising Dr. Kalam’s work and saying they could see changes in Tammy’s entire person. Many people told her how beautiful she looked. Someone jokingly asked if Tami’s video was artificial intelligence because her appearance was so different. At least one person is shocked by the “imperceptible” work Tammy does.

Even some people in Tammy’s life couldn’t tell what had changed in her appearance because it was so subtle and perfect. A few people who didn’t know about her plastic surgery asked her what she did with her hair.

“They couldn’t pinpoint it, which was weird,” she described.

Tammy is very happy with her choice to have plastic surgery, and she’s grateful for other patients who are willing to share their experiences publicly. They helped convince her to take the plunge — something she’s happy to repay by sharing her story.

“We have the same emotions of, ‘Oh, I don’t like the way I look today,’ or, ‘I don’t like the way I look when I get older.’ So to see other women take this step and see the positive results, that’s why this resonates,” she said. “Even just women, because I know a lot of men are doing it right now, and I think it’s awesome. But why not? If you have a way to do it, do it. Why not? We take care of our homes, and if we remodel the kitchen, we want to show it to everyone. You remodeled your face. It houses our souls to live in. It’s incredible.”
