Russell comes to MSU after spending last season at rival Michigan State. In 2025, he serves as the Wolverines’ assistant quarterbacks coach. Prior to joining the Wolverines, Russell spent three seasons at UMass from 2022 to 2024 as a graduate assistant and analyst for the Minutemen.
Russell comes to MSU with deep ties to the state of Michigan. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, he played quarterback for the Ferris State Bulldogs from 2016 to 2019.
