It’s been a very exciting few days for Michigan State athletics.
Michigan State University announced Tuesday that they will launch a new $1 billion initiative called “FOR SPARTA” to enhance facilities, enhance the student-athlete experience and “ensure MSU’s position as a leader in collegiate athletics.” The initiative was previously announced through social media posts and a press release issued by the school on Tuesday.

“FOR SPARTA sets a bold course for the future of athletics in Michigan,” MSU President Dr. Kevin M. Guskiewicz said in the release. “By investing in world-class facilities and experiences for our student-athletes, we are positioning MSU to lead in an increasingly competitive environment. This move reflects our commitment to modernizing our athletic programs, and I look forward to seeing the impact it will have today and for generations to come.”
The new initiative specifically includes improvements to sports venues such as Spartan Stadium, the Breslin Center and Jennison Field. The press release included some renderings of planned enhancements, which include “a redesigned Spartan Stadium, including a new east tower with multiple premium seating options and year-round functionality that will provide fans with college football’s best gaming experience.”
The news comes after Michigan State announced that Pat Fitzgerald will take over as the Spartans’ new head coach. He will be named the new head coach on Tuesday afternoon.
