MS NOW and CNN aired a video widely circulated on social media showing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shooting a woman in Minneapolis, with the city’s mayor saying he doesn’t believe the Trump administration’s assertion that the officer acted in self-defense.
Video shows agents confronting the driver of a maroon Honda Pilot. As the driver drove away, an agent on the left driver’s side of the vehicle opened fire on the vehicle. The vehicle then accelerated and hit a nearby parked car.

“The secretary of Homeland Security called it an act of domestic terrorism. She claimed the woman tried to run over an ICE agent and the injured ICE officer is expected to make a full recovery,” MS NOW anchor Katy Tur told viewers after Wednesday’s broadcast at 2 p.m. ET. “We haven’t seen every angle of the video, but the video we just showed you doesn’t appear to show any agents being injured.”
Brianna Keilar initially told viewers on CNN, “Right now, we’re looking at a lot of videos to make sure the content we’re bringing you is verified.” But the network later ran the video and warned it contained graphic content.
“Context is very important,” anchor Boris Sanchez said. “We don’t know exactly what happened before this video was taken, so please keep that in mind when watching this video.”

NewsNation also aired the video and was the first cable news network to be on hand, with national correspondent Ali Bradley on hand.
Fox News anchor John Roberts said they were waiting for permission to air the video and “they have a more professional eye than I do.” “Obviously there are very, very conflicting views about what happened.”
The victim was identified as a 37-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, who was not a target of the immigration crackdown.
“ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting a targeted operation and rioters began blocking ICE officers, including one violent rioter who armed her vehicle and attempted to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them, an act of domestic terrorism,” Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
“An ICE officer feared for his own life, the lives of his law enforcement colleagues, and the safety of the public and fired his weapon defensively.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said agents were participating in a law enforcement operation “because of severe weather in Minneapolis. As they attempted to push out their vehicle, a woman assaulted them and those around them and attempted to run them over and hit them with her vehicle.”
Fox News’ Roberts told viewers he had seen the video, but “what I saw really negates the notion that they were trying to push the car out of the snow.”
“They’ve tried to portray this as an act of self-defense,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at a press conference. “Having seen the video myself, I want to tell you straight up that this is nonsense. This was an agent’s reckless use of power that resulted in someone dying, someone being killed.” Frey also told ICE to “get out of Minneapolis.”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation. As protesters gathered at the site of the incident in south Minneapolis, he and Frey called for peace in the city.
