PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck northern Pakistan on Monday, killing at least one person and damaging dozens of mud-brick homes, authorities said.
The earthquake mainly caused damage in the Hunza Valley, the Gilgit-Baltistan regional government said in a statement. The quake was also felt in several areas in the northwest, triggering landslides in Hunza and nearby towns and blocking many roads, the report said.
Rescue teams were still gathering information on casualties and damage, the statement said. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
