Milan plot summer move for versatile Barcelona star

Barcelona will be busy this summer. They are planning a number of key signings, but there will also be players leaving Hansi Flick’s side between July and September, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Marc Casado mentioned as possible departures.

One issue Barcelona plans to address in the summer is centre-back, with plans to target a left-sided option. If Gerard Martin is brought in, he will be relegated to backup left-back, although he now has the chance to be one of the players leaving the Nou Camp.

According to Matteo Moretto, Milan are interested in Martin. They believe that the 23-year-old is a good option to strengthen the team’s left-back position, and Real Madrid’s Victor Valdepenas is also among their targets.

The decision to move Martin into a central role worked well initially, but quickly fizzled out. In recent weeks, Paulo Cubasi and Eric Garcia have emerged as Barcelona’s starters, with Ronald Araujo serving as the main substitute.

Selling Martin could be a smart decision

In this regard, Barcelona have space to sell Martin in the summer, although it would need to be an offer that makes sense for them. Any funds received will be used for the club’s transfer operations, but there is no need for replacements, as Jofre Torrents could become Alejandro Balde’s replacement.

Flick will have the final say on whether Martin will stay or go. He values him highly, but is unlikely to pass up if selling him means getting more money to strengthen the squad. For now, it remains to be seen whether Milan will ramp up their interest ahead of the summer transfer window, which opens in early July.
