Former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak was officially named the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this week. Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald will now be tasked with hiring his successor. There are strong indications that MacDonald will be promoted from within.
“A very important part of what we do here is continuity“,” McDonald said on Seattle Sports Radio.Right there, that’s where my heart is“.
The Seahawks have some internal options to consider. One of them is run specialist and assistant offensive line coach Justin Outten. If MacDonald wants continuity, Otten is well-versed in the zone-based scheme Kubiak excels at. He got to work with other scheme-based coaching pros like Matt LaFleur, Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel and Nathaniel Hackett.

Otten also coordinated his own attacks, so he had previous experience in rallying troops. Otten, along with Kubiak, should help the Seahawks significantly improve their rushing attack in 2025. The struggling team improved from No. 27 in 2024 to No. 11 in 2025, and Kenneth Walker III was named the Super Bowl 60 MVP.
Another internal option is passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, who worked closely with Sam Darnold last season. Pitts joined McDonald’s staff in 2024, coordinated his own offense at LSU in 2021 and began working under the talented Sean McVay in 2014.
The Seahawks have quality internal options to replace Kubiak.
