Microsoft Releases AI-Powered Xbox Support Virtual Agent for Xbox Insiders

Microsoft is testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot for its Xbox platform. On Monday, the company announced the launch of an AI-powered virtual agent designed to help console players resolve support-related issues. Rumors about the chatbot first started appearing in April, and now the company has officially released the AI bot in preview mode. Currently, access is only available to Xbox Insiders who live in the United States and have English set as their preferred language.

Microsoft releases artificial intelligence chatbot for Xbox

In a Newsroom post, Microsoft detailed its artificial intelligence chatbot called “Support Virtual Agents.” This is a new feature available on the Xbox Support website. While the AI chatbot can conduct smooth natural language conversations, it specializes in helping players with support-related issues.

The AI chatbot has been rolled out to U.S. members of the Xbox Insider program who have signed up for the experimental update. Microsoft says that eligible users will start seeing the chatbot on the Contact Us page of the platform’s support page after logging into their account.

Xbox’s AI chatbot accepts text and voice input and can answer relevant information from the gaming platform’s support page. Users can also choose between two different chatbots by clicking on the ellipsis menu icon. The company said that if a support virtual agent cannot resolve the issue, users can request to speak with a live support agent during the company’s regular business hours.

The Verge reports that the chatbot can appear either as an AI character that animates in response to queries or as a multi-colored Xbox sphere. It’s unclear whether Xbox plans to add more chatbot options for users or enhance its capabilities to help users with accounts, game catalogs, game reviews, and more.

It’s worth noting that the AI chatbot currently only supports English. The company also asked Xbox insiders to provide feedback on the AI chatbot. Users can provide feedback directly within the chatbot interface by clicking the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” button for the individual response. Alternatively, they can provide feedback by typing their comments into the text field that appears after clicking the “Provide Feedback” button at the bottom of the page.
