Thousands of Microsoft customers have reported difficulties accessing the technology company’s suite of Microsoft 365 services, including email platform Outlook, Teams and other tools.
Users began reporting problems accessing Microsoft apps on Thursday afternoon, according to DownDetector, which tracks website outages. Complaints spiked around 3 p.m. ET, when 16,000 people said they were having issues accessing Microsoft 365.
Microsoft acknowledged the issue, saying on its website that “users may see service functionality degraded or lose access to multiple Microsoft 365 services.” The company said
At 4:14 PM ET, Microsoft said in a statement on X that it had “restored the affected infrastructure to a healthy state.”
However, the company said in a later post that it was still “rebalancing traffic to all affected infrastructure to ensure the environment is brought into balance.”
As of late Thursday afternoon, some social media users were still complaining that they were unable to access Microsoft 365 tools. “We can’t even send emails. This isn’t fixed yet,” one user said on X.
Other users called on Microsoft to compensate customers for the outage, which they accused of hampering their work.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what caused the outage.
