Microsoft announced last week that its next-generation Xbox game console is codenamed Project Helix. New Xbox chief Asha Sharma confirmed that the console will be a PC/console hybrid that can play both Xbox and PC games. Microsoft has previously said that the next generation of Xbox will provide “a very premium, very high-end curated experience.” According to a new report, the console will cost up to $1,200.
The cost of the Helix project is approximately $1,000
In his recent livestream discussing Project Helix and the next generation of consoles, prominent leaker Moore’s Law is Dead said that the next Xbox will be more powerful than the PS6, but will be expensive – something he has said before.
“I think Sony is looking for a next-gen approach that’s more like PS4, and Xbox is building a bridge out of the console market, so they’ll probably charge $1,000 (roughly Rs. 91,900) or more for it,” the source said during a YouTube live broadcast.
“Moore’s Law Has Expired” goes on to break down the potential prices of next-generation Xbox components and estimates that if Microsoft prices aggressively, the next-generation Xbox could be priced at $999. The leaker says that the more likely price is closer to $1,200 (roughly Rs. 110,300) but not more than $1,500 (roughly Rs. 137,865).
Sharma, who was named Microsoft Gaming CEO last month, said in her Project Helix announcement that the next-generation Xbox will “lead in performance and play Xbox and PC games.” Her comments are consistent with previous reports that the PC/console hybrid Xbox will be more powerful than the next-generation PlayStation console.
The Xbox team got the morning off to a great start as we discussed our commitment to the return of Xbox, including Project Helix, the codename for our next generation console.

As early as October 2025, then-Xbox president Sarah Bond (who quit the company last month) said that the price of the next-generation Xbox would likely be high. Bond said in an interview that the next generation of consoles will offer “a very premium, very high-end curated experience.”
Prices for gaming hardware and components such as memory, storage and GPUs have soared in recent months due to growing demand for chips for artificial intelligence. Both the PS5 and the high-end Xbox Series X will cost $499.99 when they launch in the United States in 2020. After price increases over the past year, the disc versions of both consoles now cost $550 and $650 respectively. Prices for next-generation consoles are expected to rise further.
Last year, the Nintendo Switch 2 was launched in the United States for $449.99 and has sold more than 17 million units to date. However, a Bloomberg report last month claimed that Nintendo was considering raising the price of the Switch 2 in 2026.
In addition to pricing issues, the launch of next-generation consoles may also be delayed due to rising prices and shortages of memory and storage. The next-generation Xbox and PS6 are both believed to be released in 2027.
However, recent leaks and reports suggest that the PS6 may be delayed until 2029. Microsoft also reportedly has no “full internal commitment” to launching a next-generation Xbox in 2027. Sony and Microsoft have yet to confirm release schedules for their respective next-gen consoles.
