Michigan loses LB Cole Sullivan to Oklahoma via transfer portal

Michigan football has done a great job of retaining many of the players who entered the transfer portal. But obviously not all.

It was a bit of a surprise when sophomore linebacker Cole Sullivan entered the door on Friday. His inclusion did come with the caveat that a return to Ann Arbor was possible. Over the next few days, it seemed that his return was not only possible, but possible. However, Oklahoma State and Brent Venables kept going. While the Wolverines are optimistic the likely starting linebacker will return in 2026, Sullivan is headed to Norman after all, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Sullivan will return to Ann Arbor in 2026, albeit in a different uniform, as Oklahoma State takes on Michigan State in Week 2. Without Sullivan, the Wolverines will hope to have Jimmy Roald back. The Maize and Blue also have Troy Bowles, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Chase Taylor and Jaden Hood at this point – so it’s not like they’re without depth.
