The Michigan State football program places a premium on depth in the quarterback room.
Just days after adding former Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, the Wolverines added former LSU quarterback Colin Hurley from the transfer portal. He shared the news on social media on Tuesday, January 13.

Hurley has spent the past two seasons in Baton Rouge but has yet to play in a game. In 2024, he redshirted; in 2025, he was involved in a car accident around 3:00 a.m. and was found unresponsive but still breathing, missing the spring.

“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health Center, and the many Tiger fans for their care and compassion,” the Hurley family wrote in a statement at the time. “Colin is resting and in stable condition while receiving additional tests and care. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this horrific accident.”
Hurley is a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 from Jacksonville, Florida (Trinity Christian Academy). He was originally a member of the Class of 2025 before reclassifying in January 2024 and coming to LSU as a 16-year-old.

Hurley comes to Ann Arbor and will likely compete for the backup spot with Bryce Underwood, who is set to return and lock down the starting job. This will likely be a two-man race between Hurley and Fowler-Nicolosi. Michigan saw a lot of turnover at the position this offseason, with Jardine Davis, Mickey Keene (Arizona State) and Davis Warren (Stanford) all entering the transfer portal.
