New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos will reportedly hire a new agent ahead of the 2026 season after failing to have a breakout season in 2024.

Will Salmon of The Athletic reported on Monday that Viantos is hiring Scott Boras as his new agent. Boras, of course, represents the majority of Major League Baseball’s prolific players and is president of Boras Corporation. Salmon also reported that Vientos is arbitration-eligible for the first time after next season.
The 26-year-old entered New York last year as the starting third baseman after having a career year in 2024. Despite starting the season in Triple-A, Vientos ended up playing 111 games for the Mets, batting .266/.322/.516 with a career-high 27 homers, 71 RBIs and a career-best .802 OPS. Viantos also had a stellar postseason performance for the Amazons, slashing .327/.362/.636 (a Mets postseason batting record) with five homers and 14 RBIs.
Although Vientos was firmly established as the team’s starting third baseman and perhaps future third baseman entering last season, he endured an inconsistent and injury-plagued 2025 season. Although Vientos appeared in 121 games last season, a career high, he batted just .233 with 17 homers, 61 RBIs and an OPS of .702.
Vientos ended up being the forgotten man at third base. He eventually became the DH platoon leader after third baseman Brett Baty had a breakout season for the Mets in 2025, prompting him to become the starter for much of last season and possibly even into 2026.

While the Mets did see their homegrown first baseman Pete Alonso (who Boras also represents) sign a five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles last week, Viantos’ future in Flushing is certainly subject to change, even though the slugger has also played first base at the major league level in the past.
Vientos hiring Boras as his new agent could prompt him to seek a long-term contract with the Mets or elsewhere. Although his production has been inconsistent since entering the majors, Vientos’ offensive prowess is undeniable.
