Metro Detroit snow totals show how much communities got from storm

A winter storm expected to bring light snow accumulations in the Detroit metro area turned into a heavier snowfall on Wednesday, January 14, with many school districts declaring Thursday, January 15, a snow day.

Some areas of metro Detroit received more than 6 inches of snow, while some communities in southwest Michigan saw total snow accumulations of more than 16 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Ann Arbor reported the heaviest snowfall in southeastern Michigan, with 6.5 inches. White Lake was 6.3 inches, Wyandotte was 6.2 inches, and Novi, Romulus and Wixom totaled 6 inches.
