Ahead of the drawing on Friday, April 24, the Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow and now stands at $150 million, with a cash value of $67.3 million.
If someone is lucky enough to win the jackpot on Friday, they will have two options: take home a one-time cash payment, or receive an immediate payment followed by annual checks, each of which is 5% more than the previous year.
Since its first drawing in 1996, Mega Millions has attracted hundreds of jackpot winners from 28 states. The five luckiest states are New York, California, New Jersey, Ohio and Michigan.

What is a millionaire?
Mega Millions is a lottery played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tickets cost $5 each and players can pick six numbers from two separate pools – five different numbers from 1 to 70 (white ball) and one number from 1 to 24 (gold super ball) – or choose Easy Pick/Quick Pick.
By matching all six winning numbers in the draw, you win the jackpot. If there are multiple jackpot winners, the jackpot prize will be shared.
How to play Mega Millions
To play Mega Millions, you must purchase a ticket. You can do this at a number of locations, including local convenience stores, gas stations, and even grocery stores. In some states, Mega Millions tickets can be purchased online.
Once you get your ticket, you need to choose six numbers. 5 of them are white balls with numbers from 1 to 70. Golden Super Balls are numbered from 1 to 24.
If you’re feeling particularly unlucky or don’t want to go through the hassle of picking, you can ask for a “Quick Pick” or “Easy Pick.” These options allow the computer to randomly generate numbers for you.
The Mega Millions lottery now includes built-in multipliers that can double, triple, quadruple, quintuple or 10x your non-jackpot winnings. Previously, players had to pay an extra dollar to add a “Megaplier.”
