first half
-
After a video review, Phillips Jr. slightly elbowed Waukitatis after grabbing a rebound and was sentenced to a dead-ball technical foul. Pope made one of two free throws. Texas led 5-4 with 17:26 left in the game.
-
On the ensuing offensive possession, Phillips Jr. fouled again when he extended his arm too far.
-
Stone had just punched Waukitatis. Missouri Stadium exploded. The Tigers led 11-7 with 14:14 left in the game.
-
Simeon Wilcher hit a 3-pointer from the left wing past Nicholas Randall. Randall turned to Wilcher too late, and Wilcher made him pay. With 12 minutes and 23 seconds left in the game, Missouri still led 12-10.
-
Mizzou led 18-14 with 7:38 left in the game. It was a very physical game. Both Missouri and Texas were called for fouls near the basket. Waukitatis seemed to be involved in every minor squabble within.
-
Stone hit a deep 3-pointer from the top of the key to give Mizzou a 27-26 lead with 3:49 left in the game. Stone and Mitchell have combined for 19 points so far.
-
Halftime: Texas 33, Missouri 31. A layup by Mack over Barrett gave the Longhorns the lead after the first 20 minutes.
-
Quick takeaway: Mitchell (12 points) was mostly able to get what he wanted in the low post, especially with Waukitatis on the bench late in the first half. But other than him and Stone (eight points), the Tigers struggled offensively. Pierce was effective on both rebounds and defense (four rebounds and one block). Texas did a good job on defense and Mizzou made just 3 of 10 layups.
second half
-
Texas led 41-39 with 15:04 left in the game. Waukitatis returned to the game and caused a lot of trouble in the paint. He hugged Phillips Jr., who was called for his third foul of the game. Nicholas Randall had just finished a two-handed dunk off a Barrett steal before Stone forced a backcourt violation.
-
With 13:04 left in the game, Anthony Robinson II committed his third foul. Swain made two free throws and Texas led 48-43.
-
With 11 minutes and 33 seconds left in the game, Phillips Jr. committed his fourth foul. In the first 9 minutes and 27 seconds of the second half, there were already 13 fouls.
-
Robinson II was whistled for his fourth foul of the game with 9:16 left in the game when he drove into the Waukitetis screen and reached for a foul (I guess?). Upon further review, Wilcher backhanded Robinson in the face while being fouled. Wilcher made two free throws, and Stone made two free throws at the other end. Texas leads 59-50.
-
You may want to save the melatonin for later use. We may be here for a long time.
-
Texas hit back-to-back three-pointers to take a 67-55 lead with 6:46 left in the game. Two free throws by Robinson II cut UT’s lead to three points with 12:43 left in the game, and the Longhorns defeated the Tigers 19-10.
-
With 5 minutes and 44 seconds left in the game, Waukiteitis committed his fourth foul.
-
Texas led 73-60 with 4:59 left in the game. A lot of air has been sucked out of Missouri Stadium in recent minutes. Many people were heading for the exit. The Tigers gave up consecutive open looks to the rim, and the Longhorns made them pay.
Pre-game update
-
Today’s game has been postponed to 7:50. An on-field announcement said the change was due to traffic jams on I-70 that delayed important game personnel.
