Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 official with old rivals to box at Sphere in Las Vegas

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will have a professional boxing match in September, 11 years after they first faced off, in what will be the most profitable boxing match in history.

Mayweather and Pacquiao will face off on September 19 at the Sphere Arena in Las Vegas, the same city where Mayweather defeated his Filipino opponent in 2015.

Their debut fight still holds the record for the most pay-per-view sales ($4.6 million) and highest box office gross ($72.2 million) in boxing history.

On Tuesday, American Mayweather will celebrate his 48th birthday, while Pacquiao will also celebrate his 47th birthday. This spring, each will compete in their own exhibition match and then share a ring on Netflix.

In a press release, “Money” Mayweather kept the news short and sweet: “I’ve fought Manny once and it will be the same this time.”

Meanwhile, Pac-Man said: “Floyd and I gave the world one of the biggest fights in boxing history. Fans have waited long enough – they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be broadcast globally on Netflix.”

As Pacquiao mentioned, Mayweather has an undefeated record of 50-0 (27 knockouts) and his last professional fight was in 2018, when he defeated UFC star Conor McGregor via TKO. Since then, he has participated in many exhibition games.

Pacquiao’s professional record is 62-8-3 (39 KOs) and he remains the only eight-weight world champion in boxing history, while Mayweather is a former five-weight champion.

In fact, Pacquiao returned to professional boxing last summer, fighting then-champ Mario Barrios to a draw for the WBC welterweight title. He had one exhibition match in 2024 and his previous professional fight was a loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2021.

Pacquiao is also actively involved in politics in his home country. He served as a Philippine senator from 2016 to 2022 and launched an unsuccessful presidential campaign before the 2022 election.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 sees Netflix continue its push into boxing, with the streaming platform already hosting a number of high-profile fights since 2024.
