Mason Marchment scores 2 power-play goals, Kirill Marchenko adds 1 as Blue Jackets beat Kings 3-1

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mason Marchment scored two power-play goals, Kirill Marchenko added a goal and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 on Monday night.

Jeter Greaves made 23 saves, Damon Severson contributed 2 assists, and Columbus ended its four-game losing streak on the road.

Andrei Kuzmenko scored and Anton Forsberg made 27 saves as the Kings were held to three goals for the sixth straight game.

Columbus was without guard Zach Werenski, who suffered a lower-body injury on a block against Anaheim on Saturday and was on the field every day. Werenski leads the Blue Jackets in goals, assists and points, and his 14 goals tie him with Washington’s Jakob Chychrun for the most by an NHL defenseman.

However, newcomer Marchment makes up for it, scoring twice in the first period and scoring three goals in two games since joining from Seattle on Friday. He opened the scoring with a wrist shot past Forsberg’s blocker 4:07 into the game, then made it 2-0 with 23.5 seconds left when Boone Jenner’s shot deflected twice and sailed over Marchment’s shoulder.

Kuzmenko gave the Kings the lead with 1:19 left in the second quarter, but Marchenko scored the Blue Jackets’ third power-play score with 5:46 left in the third. The three goals on the man advantage were a season-high and the third time the Blue Jackets had multiple power-play goals.

Los Angeles was playing for the first time since trading third-line center Phillip Danault to Montreal on Friday, but newly promoted bottom-six centers Alex Turcotte and Samuel Helenius struggled to make a consistent impact, and frequent penalties created an inconsistent game.
