Man killed in e-scooter hit-and-run remembered as “dedicated father”

St. Cloud police are asking for the public’s help in solving a hit-and-run that killed a 48-year-old e-scooter rider.

Police said Angel Sanchez was riding an electric scooter on Old Canoe Creek Road, north of Clay Whaley Road, around 6 p.m. Saturday when multiple cars plowed into Sanchez.

According to the Go-fund-me family, Sanchez was traveling from his mother’s house to a home just 15 minutes away when he was hit.

An off-duty Orange County deputy attempted to render aid at the scene, but Sanchez died from his injuries, police said.

“We do have a grieving family looking for answers. We’re really just trying to fill in the pieces and explain what happened here,” St. Cloud Police Chief Doug Goerke said.

Police are still investigating whether Sanchez was on a road, sidewalk or cycle path when he was killed, which is why they are asking anyone who may have seen Sanchez riding his e-scooter that day to contact them.

Sanchez’s son told Channel 9 that his father “was loved by many and prided himself on being the best father to his children.”

A friend of Sanchez described him as a proud new grandfather who loved to show off photos of his grandson, writing: “He will never be forgotten. We will remember him for his kindness and affection. Hopefully we will find the person responsible for this tragedy.”

St. Cloud Police urge anyone with information to contact them at 407-891-6700 or to remain anonymous by calling the Central Florida Crime Hotline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
