Man, 72, charged with rape and human trafficking

A 72-year-old man has appeared in court charged with rape and human trafficking.

Oliver James MacCormack, 72, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court via video link from Maghaberry Prison.

He was charged with 14 offenses involving two alleged victims.

The charges include human trafficking, rape, two counts of administering a drug with sexual intent, two counts of controlling prostitution for gain, two counts of causing or inciting prostitution for gain and three counts of supplying class A drugs.

He was also charged with intimidation and three counts of payment for sexual services.

The alleged crimes occurred between January 1, 2016, and May 5, 2022.

A police detective told the court he could link the defendant to the charges.

McCormack spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him.

No application for bail was made and the case was adjourned for four weeks to February 5.
